welcome
Where you coming from? We transferred down in Dec. from Ohio. I can't really speak on the doctors since we pretty much go wherever our insurance participates we have Aetna. I am sure others can help you with that, I can recommend a good dentist and orthodontist haha.
We are in Anniston (mailing address) but White Plains Schools ( a little further from town) I'll be very honest with you....Anniston schools are terrible. This is not soley me talking I met alot of people from here, and asked them their advice and they all had one thing in common....the schools are not good. Sooo you have the option of Oxford schools right next door which are great, and then like us we have the Anniston mailing address but moved out more for the county schools. Our daughter is adjusting it's tough enough for any 12 year old girl to move let alone, so far away. But the teachers are fair, but strict. The curriculum is up to par with what she had back home and she is slowly making friends being the outsider and all. I'd love to help in any way you can always private message me if you like. Welcome to the area and good luck.

was going to pm you but you can't accept them
[wow you've been all over....we are from Ohio...have lived in Florida, Indiana and mostly the Midwest. I have heard of that school and I am guessing it may be good for the diversity of your family. I have no problem with it at all but some down here do
I'll be honest I thought the smaller the school the better for our daughter but it is taking her some time to fit in, blonde hair blue eyes...doesn't matter she's a "yankee" oh boy huh? The only thing I would watch for is that Munford/Coldwater has had an outbreak of TB recently at the school it's been all over the news down here. I honestly believe Oxford would be your best bet for a blended family...there is more diversity slowly but surely out our way...feel free to come on out haha, Anniston schools are terrible. Do you have a home already? Where at? Just nosy nice to hear from someone not from here.
Sincerely,
Deana

Housing
I would recommend going to the Anniston Star newspaper online and you can check out the housing ads online. I know Oxford has houses and townhomes for rent. I can speak from experience that the area we are in the housing is phenomenal! Of course that is coming from up north where prices and taxes are just insane. Let me know what your budget is etc and I'd be glad to help. I would stay at one of the motels/hotels on Davis Loop which is a road in Oxford with many nice places and shopping etc so the kids aren't bored! I'll help in any way I can.

Speaking of refreshing, when you and the children get bored with the hotel and need a dose of nature, take a picnic lunch and drive to the top of nearby Cheaha Mountain for a hike (the highest peak in Alabama, and a state park). The buildings were a bit run down when I visited about three or four years ago, but the scenery was nice. I went in the autumn.
