Which City Will Be Alabama's Future Boom Town?
Which city in Alabama do you think will boom in the future? The state is doing good, considering BRAC and the the proposed steel plant. Also, there are numerous large developments such as the entertainment center in Dothan, the entertainment complex in Asheville, and plenty more. Which city do you think is the next boom city in Alabama and WHY?
1. Birmingham
2. Huntsville/Decatur
3. Mobile
4. Montgomery
5. Auburn/Opelika
6. Tuscaloosa
7. Dothan

I never thought I would say this, but I think Dothan could be. They've been experiencing steady growth for many years, and I think that if/when this bingo bill goes through, the city is going to be seeing a lot of tourism.
Although, the safe choice is Huntsville-Decatur. I believe that once the MPOs are united, the region will move forward and probably start growing A LOT more since they'd be working together.

In all honesty they all are doing great.
I think Mobile has the potential be a great city. There are big things happen there right now and the geography is great.Montgomery is doing a 180 new state house being built, new alley way project that will have restaurants, shopping and clubs built down an alley: WSFA 12 News Montgomery, AL |Downtown Alleyway Project nears completion hotel & spa downtown Montgomery.Plus there is a lot of new job growth in Montgomery.Tuscaloosa is seeing growth, that dawg gon stadium looks great.Birmingham is also seeing positive things. Auburn-Opelika is seeing growth :tiger town is a huge shopping center and new Multi-million dollar basketball stadium being built.Decatur: adds another bass pro shop to the state(couldn't be a better place for it).Dothan is on a roll.Huntsville well you should know, because thats all you guys talk about.
But as of now by visiting all cities I think Mobile will be it.
Montgomery is on the up too, whether most people believe or not, but all will see.

Yea, I failed to mention Montgomery, I don't know how I did. I think Montgomery is poised to become the next Chatty, and will probably rival it for tourist dollars in the future, easily.
And I think you're also right on the money about the Bass Pro. When it comes to locations for them in Alabama, it doesn't get much better than Wheeler Lake.

Huntsville, for one reason above all others - engineers and smart people with security clearances out of proportion to just about anywhere.

Huntsville has been experiencing a lot of growth in the past decade so it`s safe to say Huntsville is already a boomtown so there not included. On the other hand I would like to say Mobile,Montgomery and Dothan are all runners for the title.
Mimpdaddy: I know Montgomery is very well in the postion of having the title as a boomtown.

Why are you looking for a boom town, so you wonder 10 yrs down the road "X, Y, Z cities have been booming for the past 10 years, which one is first to fizzle?"
We don't need boom, and bang, we need consistent slow/moderate growth year over year. and diverse mix of job types, so when one industry fails, the other ones pick up without much disruption in city's life.

There's nothing wrong with discussing this, it's all in good fun. I think it's fun to think about which cities will experience a lot of growth and why.

I don't care which one of them "booms" as long as the sprawl is contained.

I still vote for Guntersville...the perfect future resort location, and good for the locals to hang out, too. Developed properly - that is, if it can happen without destroying the charm or the landscaping.
OK, maybe we should just leave them alone.
