We are moving to Montgomery this summer, probably renting in Old Cloverdale. Can you please tell me what we might expect in Montgomery with regards to racism and crime. We are comfortable with all types of people ourselves. Thanks very much!

You are coming and I am going. Great choice with Old Cloverdale. I have lived in Cloverdale-Idlewild for four years. Crime in this area is something to be aware of, but I feel safe. The crime we have here is property related. Don't park on the street. Both Cloverdale and Cloverdale-Idlewild have wonderful neighborhood associations, very active and committed to making this a great place to live. Racism: Montgomery is the home of the Civil Rights movement but it also hasn't quite got ridden of the pride from being the Cradle of the Confederacy. I could write a book. If you are really interested in Montgomery, I invite you to visit my two blogs and read the archives where you will find all sorts of trivial information and some honest answers to your questions about race. Feel free to E-mail me with questions. You aren't from Missouri, are you? That's where we are going.

Kindest Regards,
Sheila

Default Now I am bummed

Wow, read alot of negative things about Montgomery and I am a bit dissapointed in the human race at the moment. I was cheered a bit by the southern food discussion, though. OK, so if I were to rent in Old Cloverdale, what type of crime can I expect. Are home break-ins common? Are there hold-ups, and drive-bys like in NOLA or more garden variety car break-ins and the like. Thanks for the info!
