The more I think about it, the more I really hope that we end up there. My husband might take some convincing, but I think once we were settled he would really come to love the area.
The thing I can't get over is the beautiful new homes and their extremely affordable prices. I don't know where else in the country you find such gorgeous homes for next to nothing!
No job offer yet, but we are hoping to hear back soon. Hopefully everything will work out. Keep your fingers crossed!

Hey Kat,
There is a comedy club in Tallahassee, FL. It's less than a 2 hr drive from Dothan. It's called "Tallahassee Comedy Zone". You can look it up online. This might make your husband a little bit more excited about the area.

I grew up in this area and lived here practically all my life up until 5 years ago when I moved to Colorado Springs, CO. I just moved back to Dothan a few months ago and believe it or not I've been having a hard time adjusting to the area again.
One of the funny things I've had to adjust to is the southern way of speaking around here. I forgot everyone talked like me. People in Colorado used to respectfully make fun of my accent and southern slang. I can't tell you how many times people asked "What part of Texas are you from?".
Since the Springs is a much bigger city there is more to do and more places to shop. I miss the dollar theater ($1 to see a movie). I miss the natural food stores such as "Whole Foods". The closest one is in Birmingham.
What I miss the most is my church. It was a very modern, but very sincere mega church. The worship service was like attending a concert every Sunday morning. Sometimes we would sing songs like "How great thou art" accapella. Hearing thousands of voices singing togther as one was a heavenly sound. I would close my eyes and imagine my self in Heaven, what an experience. Of course I also miss pastor Boyd and his teaching along with other speakers.
But since I've been back I have been to the beach many times and this has helped contribute to my readjustment to the area.

Glad to hear that there is a Comedy Club nearby! Jahservant -- do you have a church you could recommend? I'm Lutheran and my husband grew up Methodist. We like churches that are somewhere in between traditional and contemporary. Any suggestions?

I'm sorry Kat I can't really help you with that. I'm attending a church now that is affiliated with the Methodist denomination but most say it doesn't feel like it. It is contemporary with about 1000 people now in attendance. I call it a seeker friendly church where they welcome anyone without making you conform to certain doctrines or a set of rules associated with a particular denomination. It's kind of like going to a nondenominational church.
I have met people there from different denoms from Baptists to Pentecostal.
Dothan has a lot of churches but most of them are traditional that I know of. There is a newer Lutheran church-Missouri Synod, about 10 years old, in the southeast part of town you might be interested in. But you might be like me where you have to try different churches til you find the right one that's just right.
Sorry I couldn't be more help.

kat i am actually from Dothan-raised there from the age of 5. I always thought that i had to get out of there and explore the world I did and now my husband and I want to go back to the simple life! He is from San Diego-born and raised, lived in NY for about 5yrs, we lived in south florida, northern cali and montana. Trust me, all of these places have wonderful things to do but there is nothing like Dothan. It is clean, people are friendly, great schools it is just an overall simple life in Dothan. I am hoping to go back and open a spa/salon while my husband finishes college. There really is no night-life Destin is our get-away all year! I live in Tallahassee @ the moment and it is unclean, to many college students for our taste and we are still young, 28 & 32 Dothan has ton's of banks, churches and eating establishments. The shopping has improved over the years and hopefully Country Crossing will be our near future. It will bring a lot of tourism to our city. Let me know if you have any questions. Best of luck

Good luck, grantsgirl--I hope you are able to get back to Dothan soon! I was very impressed when we visited and agree that it is a great place to call home.
What is Country Crossing?

Hi everyone,
My husband and I are moving to Dothan this month. I have been there a few times looking at rentals. We are looking for places to rent and it has been very hard to find rental homes and apartments. We finally put a deposit at Princeton Place, but that's not where we want to be. We were hoping to find a rental home because we are so used to our 3400 sqft house. It will be difficult to down grade. Eventually we want to buy a house in a nice neighborhood. We have to rent our current home out first though. So far, our visits have been pleasant. The town is very beautiful. I am from Augusta, Ga and my husband is from Atlanta. We relocated to Alma (very very very small town). So moving to Dothan from Alma will be an upgrade for us! Does Dothan have Lutheran Churches?

Just wanted to keep you all posted. Unfortunately, my husband did not get the job in Dothan. We received the kindest letter from the employer telling us that he was the second choice. They decided to hire someone from the Dothan area, because they thought they might be willing to stay for a longer ammount of time, as they had family in the area.
They will be hiring again in a year, and offered him a position then, so we will see. Until then -- back to the drawing board! =) Thank so much for all of your kind posts and helpful information!
