I only have three flags. American flag, state flag, and Navy flag. But then again, I didn't serve in the Civil War.

I don't agree with some uses of the Confederate flag but to identify a Confederate soldiers grave and treat that grave with respect is totally appropriate in my opinion.
Is this guy trying to pretend the Civil War never happened?

My grandfathers eldest brother was a victim of that treason.....and died defending the Union. One of my ministers was beaten to death on the side walk in Selma Alabama by a man who was still glorifying that hateful emblem.
So I dont know about the private display of hate symbols and the violence associated with them....but I am not shedding a tear that the battle flag underwhich terrorists killed Americans has been removed from some graves. It is an indecent display that desecretes a cemetery.....if it is a public cemetery....they should have been removed long ago.

Ya I agree the confederate flag should be banned from America, just like the Nazi flag is banned from Germany. Really there is no difference between the two.

I know, the ones who get all worked up about this stuff live in states where there are no black people.

^^^ True, and just cause the graves of the soliders have the flag that respresnt what they believe in doesn`t make it right.
If there was a civil war flag that represented the enslavement of the short, tall, fat,or skinny it should be banned because it petrays negativity.
Though it doesn`t bother me and this is anew day and new time but one can`t help but to think what is truelly the beliefs of those who wear the flag, fly it , or even pu it on the bumper of the car. Flying the flag shows what you believe in if you believe in peace, the enviroment,or the armed services you will fly the flag.So if you still believe that any one who is not of white should be enslaved nd treated as 1/3 of a man then you will fly a flag that represent that.

Very few Southerners owned slaves.
Lincoln did not free the slaves because he thought it was wrong.
During the war, he freed the slaves in certain states, in order to insure anarchy and to cripple them.
Had he believed slavery was wrong, he would have freed them before any war.
Both Grant and Lee knew the war was not fought over slavery. Slavery was on its way out with mechanization around the bend.
The war simply was not fought over slavery. It was fought over tariffs and differences of government.

There was some kind of mentality to keep "The Union", but before that, states reigned supreme. You were a "Virginian", or a "Pennsylvanian" before you were "An American."
After Lincoln, the Federal government grew and became supreme.
The South had simply been going by what this country was founded on...states, which had authority to govern themselves, with capitols, militias, and the right to enact their own laws.
You see, there is quite a big difference between the Confederacy and Naziism.
The South had a right to secede. That is why it is important to know your laws, and to know that almost a million men died, both Northerners and Southerners, and the coffers of the very rich were filled, and none of that really had to happen.

its difficult to harm the dead but confederate flags serve important functions. they help us remember that the feds are not always in the right (no it was not fought about slavery it was about unconstitutional rip off tariffs) and it helps us remember what happens when we try to teach hulk hogan a lesson bare handed.

Wow I actually agree with you for once, the confederate flag doesn't really bother me either I could care less its actually amuses me that some people are so stuck in the past and act like the civil war occurred yesterday. I also do think people have the right to honor their history which I think the majority of the people who display the flag are doing that. The problem is the minority of people who may use it to represent hate and like it or not the rebel flag is a symbol of past hate even if it does represent history and heritage so of course its going to be offensive to a lot of people and bring up reminders of a dark time in our nation's history. Also when I lived in Michigan a group of students at my high school calling themselves the Cowboy Klan used to wear confederate flags to school everyday so how could it really be about representing their history/heritage for them when they live up North?
