The Wharf has it all! Dining and entertainment. LuLu's (Jimmey Buffet's sister) is great to hang out, and get a little bit of food. The atmosphere there is Great. Hands down the best food is at the Original Oyster House. Might be a line, but very well worth it. Get there early, eat, and head somewhere for the evening. If you have kids, there is a small zoo there, featured in The Little Zoo that Could on Animal Planet after Katrina. Even if you do not have kids, it is a fun place to visit. Foley has all the outlets if you like to shop, great for a rainy day. Papa Roco's Pizza joint is great at night, have live music. And by all means, go to the Pink Pony Pub!! It is a landmark!! I used to live near Gulf Shores, grew up there every summer.... We had a house there for 30 years. It is my all time favorite place to be... The beach is beautiful, people are nice, and it is still 'small'. Of coarse I remember when there was only 8 condos there!! Where are you staying at?

If you like fishing there are charter boats and even an open party boat at Zekes Marina in Orange Beach. I also think they may have a dolphin sightseeing boat.

I definitely recommend any of the dolphin sightseeing boat tours.

One "hole-in-the-wall" restaurant that I really like is the Wheel House Restaurant. I especially like their breakfast.

If you want a good burger, I'd recommend Bahama Bob's.

If you're looking for souvenir shops, the main concentration is near the "T" area of Gulf Shores (where highway 59 meets the beach).

I'd also recommend visiting the "touristy beachfront restaurants" like Pink Pony, Sea-N-Suds, and The Hangout at least once. You might find a little better deals at restaurants off beach, and certainly more gourmet fare off beach, but to me, sitting there looking right over the sand and water is a part of the Gulf Shores experience.

As others have mentioned, Lulu's, Original Oyster House, The Wharf, and many other places are very popular and fun to visit.

For more interesting food, check out Tin Top in Bon Secour(very close to GS, AL10/49), also Cosmos, Wolf Bay Lodge and Moe"s BBQ in Orange Beach. The Shrimp Basket is also quick and inexpensive. The one on 59 is the busiest one.
Wolf Bay Lodge burned down and they have relocated to where Zeke's was...and it's very good. Cosmos is on Canal Road...and it is great! Moe's is super, but they close at 6pm...mainly lunch.
The Gulf Coast zoo in Gulf Shores is very nice, and was featured on a documentary. Please ck their website as they close early in the afternoon.

While in Gulf Shores, you might want to visit Fairhope...many people do..and see our beautiful town. Have lunch at Panini Pete's, featured on 2 Food Network shows, and it's great food. Fairhope has a very nice museum, quite informative about the history of the town and how it came to be a Single Tax colony. If you are here in the evening, dinner at Fly Creek Cafe is fun. It sits by the Marina, and has fairly decent food.(FYI, new owners since December have done an excellent job with new look and new menu). And enjoy your stay!!!

I might also suggest if your staying for a week, you should take a day trip and visit Fairhope. It's only about a 45 minute ride and is a beautiful little city on the eastern shore of Mobile bay, cool shops and sights to see. Enjoy your trip.

I agree on the Fly Creek Cafe.. be sure to try 'Fried Crab Claws" if you like crab. I also like LuLu's although a little expensive the food has always been good and the atmosphere is what you are paying for too. Lambert's is a must too. Go early as they always are crowded but it is a lot of fun

Great suggestions from the board. I would only add one other thing. Pensacola is a very short drive away, and a must-see attraction is the Naval Air Museum, all of 27 miles away. It has some incredible exhibits and an iMax. Best of all it's FREE.
