I'm of average/slender build and the thing that baffles me is that in the past 2 months since we moved back to Alabama, I've been eating a lot more and eating more fried foods but I've somehow managed to lose about 10 pounds...

You are in the close to 70% non-obese majority, Even in the fattest states the majority are not technically obese.

I know that, but to hear some of these people talk you'd think the majority of us are fat.

We do have other foods that are NOT fried.
I invite you to visit Alabama in person, try some of the dishes and THEN pass judgment.
In the meantime, please peruse this: http://www.alabama.travel/yof/YOFbrochure.pdf

Ok, we'll remember that when you ask for government help in paying for your diabetes/heart disease/cancer meds/treatments.

Yes, that's true. I read some research that concluded that when a person has a lot of overweight friends, they have a tendency to be overweight, too.

But the reality is that it't NOT just an individual's problem. The negative effects of so many obese people affect ALL OF US, from what we pay for cost of health care and many other things.
