Question Jacksonville

Hello,
I'm wondering if anyone can give me some good information on Jacksonville. I am considering Jacksonville State Univeristy but I would like a little more detailed and personal information that I can find online. I guess I would like information on the weather (tornados, winters), prices for apartments, etc. Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I went to JSU and loved the experience. Friendliest campus in the South. Lots of friendly people, beautiful scenery, etc. But it's definatly not fast pace like a big city school. Depending on what you're majoring in, JSU may be an excellent place. The business school does an excellent job of teaching business. They aren't known for teaching exams like some schools (CPA particular) The schools of education and nursing are pretty well respected too. I can't speak for other areas, as I don't know anyone personally in other fields.

As for weather, the winters are usually pretty mild. We may get an inch of snow a year, but usually no more than that. I ride a motorcycle and there are about 10 days a year that I find it too cold. Tornados aren't to bad here, but the summers are hot and humid. It's also a pretty easy 6 hour drive to the beach, and there will be a group of students going just about every weekend during the summer

As for apartment rents, etc. it has been a while, but I seem to remember them as pretty reasonable. If you live conservatively, the cost of living in J'ville is pretty reasonable. Give me a shout if I can be of further assistance. And Go Gamecocks.

Thwe weather is what you would expect of the deep south. Summers are muggy and hot while winters last only two or three months with cycles between warm and cold which last three days each.
Mosquitos are a pain so keep repellent nearby.
Rent runs $325 - $525 as a general rule and is easily accessed if you line it up prior to the pre-school crush.
About 10K students now and they are generally a quiet bunch. There are only a few social outlets here for students but this is changing as the University transitions from commuter to residence school. Excellent area if you are comfortable with yourself and want to seek out nature opportunities. An easy trip to Gadsden, Anniston, Birmingham or Atlanta if you are high maintenance.
Very good programs available in nursing, education and business. Several others if you are seeking a degree.
