Wink What did I miss in Arab?

Passed through Arab today, but did not stop to look around. Loved Huntsville. Is it really a short commute?

yes , Its only a 20 min drive from Arab to south Huntsville. most all the people in Arab work in Huntsville at the Redstone Arsenal either with the department of defence or at marshall space flight center for NASA. Latest statistics 1 out of every 13 people in this area are Engineers of some sort, either Aviation, defence or techical research. but I have to stay here in Arab to take care of their lawns and landscaping and other needs so they can come home and go play golf or take their 30 ft pleasure boats out for a spin. But what you missed on the way through was one of the cleanest and quitest little town in Al. we have great schools, hospital, shopping, with a large outlet mall 25 min away and almost no crime rate. This the home of the Famous Polk Sallet festival, which we also have several craft and art festivals per year, this is kinda like "Mayberry" everybody knows your name.

Wink Thanks Rick!

We plan to go back looking around the area in September. Will definitely look at Arab. Also have heard we should look around Athens. One question. Sounds like lots of folks are looking to get out to surrounding areas of Huntsville, but not in Huntsville itself. Why? It seemed like a nice place, but passing through for a few days isn't the same as being there for awhile. We are not subdivision kind of people, but do not want to commute every time we want to go after milk or bread. We lived rural most of our lives and do not want to go back to fixing fence, string trimming constantly, and keeping up a tractor to mow pasture. We like traveling, and I have to work for about 10 more years before retirement. So Huntsville itself seemed like a good choice. Madison seemed nice, but very subdivisionish. Truth please. From a working person perspective. We are not well to do, but will be able to purchase a home based on the prices we saw on our trip after selling ours. We searched all over No. Carolina, So. Carolina, Georgia, Arkansas and Florida before deciding that Alabama was a fit for us. Need good health care available, and need hospital to work in (am RN). Want enough elbow room to garden and for hubby to play in a workshop. Did not feel the shoals, Decatur, Hartselle, Cullman, or Scottsboro/Guntersville was big enough for us and our many interests. They were all lovely, but not suited to us, still too rural and small. Am leaning very much to Huntsville, and would like some real people information before our next trip. Thank you for any information you would care to share.

Default Welcome to Arab

Glad you drove through our town and are considering moving here. I noticed your need for an RN position. We have a very progressive 90 bed community hospital located just 4 miles from downtown Arab. I am the Imaging Services Director. You may visit the website at www.mmcenters.com and post an application on-line. We are participating in a job fair for MDA in a few weeks. Maybe you could stop by.

Arab has all types of housing including, medium and upscale subdivisions, individual residences on lots or small acreage, patio home, town homes and farms and mini-farms. Groceries and other necessities are available from local supermarkets and a Walmart Super Center. Hundreds of other businesses are also available for your other needs.

I am a member of the Arab Chamber of Commerce BRAC Committee and would be happy to answer any questions that you have or find the answer for you. For more information, I would recommend www.arab-chamber.org, www.arabcity.org and www.arab-today.com. If you have not received a copy of our "Arab Consider it Home" DVD the Chamber would be happy to send a copy.

We look forward to your visit. If I may be of further assistance please let me know. Email cdhayes@otelco.net

I moved to Arab in 05 from FL and couldn't be happier. We are close enough to H'ville as Rick stated for mall shopping but far enough away so you don't have to fight traffic or worry about crime. You can get just about anything you want or need here without driving into H'ville. If you are looking for a great place to retire in the future you couldn't pick a better place.
