My family is very likely moving and we need to find a good school system for our elementary age kids. I've heard good things about Muscle Shoals, but when looking online I found Decatur had a higher ranked elementary school Gordon - Bibb). UGH... decisions. (and I'm a women, so making up my mind isn't easy )

I am more flexible on the housing, but a good school system is a MUST! Can anyone give me some input please? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I believe your Decatur school info is a little outdated. Gordon-Bibb school is no more . It was a magnet school for 3rd, 4th & 5th grades. Last year the magnet schools were consolidated (1st & 2nd used to be at a separate location) and moved to a new location in an old school that was gutted and rebuilt. Gordon-Bibb was razed and a new school, Banks-Caddell, built in its spot. Banks-Caddell is an excellent school, and the neighborhood for the historic neighborhoods, as well as working class neighborhoods...it's an interested mix of students, anyway. Leon Sheffield Elementary, the magnet school, is also an excellent school. Several other excellent elementary schools in town...Decatur has no magnet middle or high schools, though. Decatur is bigger than Muscle Shoals...Muscle Shoals is next door to Florence, which has a small university...you really just need to visit and decide for yourself. Good luck!

Muscle Shoals schools are great! The realignment and new school development has been put on hold. The town council and mayor are very short minded <sigh>.

I would say Muscle Shoals, but the schools are not very diverse - ethnically or economically.

I personally prefer Florence or Killen.
