You will love it up here. We have several former FL residents who post here. (Tampa for me)
Here are a few of my favorite things. Fall is pretty although short lived. It doesn't get really cool until Oct. If you let us know when you are here maybe some of us can meet you for lunch.

Lake Guntersville area

you can go to Cathedral Caverns about 40 mins away.
Alabama State Parks

Unclaimed Baggage in Scottsboro - an hour away
Unclaimed Baggage Center

Huntsville you can go to Marshal Space Center - 40 mins
Museum Overview -- Space Camp® Online

Shrine of the most Blessed Sacrament - Hanceville - hour MOL.
Beautiful catholic monastary in the middle of nowhere.
Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament

Depending on when you arrive there are usually community fairs. Go to Wentzel's for seafood.. The best Al gulf FRESH seafood.

A side trip to Mentone might be nice, too.

Wow....thanks for all the good info. It will probably be mid-late November when we're up there. Do I need to bring more than a jacket?

Check the weather before you come. It could be hot, it could be cold. Weather in Alabama is unpredictable at times so always check before you pack. We've had Thanksgivings that have been fairly warm and then some that are pretty cold.

Nov is usually cool in but as mcatp said you never know. They are saying an El Nino winter which means not as cold as usual. You can always check in here..
