Default Keeping quiet about Alabama

Fellow Alabama posters,
I enjoy checking the forums for our neighboring states - Tennessee, Georgia, Mississippi - and North Carolina, where I have family. Seems like NC, TN, and GA are being swamped with incoming folks! Thank goodness things are quieter in our state. LOL!

If I knew I could find a job that pays me over 8.00 an hour (I'm in Warehouse, shipping, etc) and I could find a quiet, clean, fairly cheap apartment that includes some utillities and a bed, that isnt in a complex or Apartment building I'd make the move to Alabama. No doubt. I'm simple and have simple needs.

Try indeed.com
You should not have any problems in Birmingham or Huntsville. Your idea of apartment may be a different matter. Not too many people rent out the in-law suite.

All the big defense contractors are in Huntsville, Lockheed, Northrop, Boeing, etc. I was working at Westwind Technologies as a shipping and recieving Parts Clerk I started at 9 an hour. Left that job for a sub contract job to Northrop working on radio trucks making about 12.5 though. Very easy to find a job over 8 if that is your standard. Heck when I was a lifeguard for the city of Huntsville back in High school I made over 8. If you look, you will find.

Now the type of apartment you are looking for, I dont think I have ever seen. Either you are in an apartment complex or you find a house to rent. I do know someone that might be renting out a room in the near future possibly.

The influx of people you mentioned to those states are coming from Florida.

Seems like there are loads of New Yorkers and Michiganers (Michiganders?), as well as some from California.

take a look at ACIPCO. it's a pipe company in north birmingham. i worked there a few years ago and starting wages were 12.23 at the time, and they have excellent benefits.

Oh No...I figured we could get way from them here if we moved. Actually, my new father in law is from NY and we love him! Surprised us, he did! We love to tease him about being a yankee in a southern farmer family. He went to college in Troy and loved it. Mother-in law has him riding horses and cleaning stalls. Maybe we can get the inlaws to come with us. My brother is ready to come too. He might do well in Opp with a park named after him. Well, sorry, but we most likely will move up there, we hope to find a small farm and go back to basics.
