Man vs Wild: Alabama
I enjoy watching 'Man vs Wild', so this is must-see TV for me:
Quote:
This coming Wednesday, an episode of the show shot in DeKalb and Cherokee Counties will debut.
For those unfamiliar with the show it features Bear Grylls, a British survival expert, getting lost in exotic locations around the world, then showing viewers how to survive.
This episode was filmed back in February and features Bear building a hand-made raft, then holding on for dear life as the rapids and waterfalls test his craftsmanship. Bear also goes into a pitch black cave, hunts wild boar and scales rock faces in the episode.

I'm surprised they found enough uninhabited area to do a show like this.

I think the show was filmed at Little River Canyon National Park.

You'd really be surprised at the Walls of Jericho (21000 acres / 32 sq miles). We've got a lot of wilderness up here. But then you've got some wilderness down there - north of Lillian up the Perdido River seems pretty wild.

Yep--Little River Canyon. Not isolated by standards out west, but isloated enough and rough enough to get yourself in trouble if you get stupid or just unlucky.
Love the Walls of Jericho. Will be spending a day there with my new son-in-law within the next couple of weeks....just waiting for a little cooler weather and no rain...
The Sipsey is a nice area, too.

skinem = "cooler weather" - from the ads, it looks like Grylls filmed the episode during Winter. That's when I like to go camping. No snakes or bugs. I'll go hiking anytime, but snakes skeer me.

I heard that you can now drive up to the Walls of Jericho. Is this true? When we last lived here we hiked in and out. Want to do it again but is this true - we can now drive up?
Am DVRing the show tonight. For those who don't venture out much or never been here, northern AL is beautiful with rolling hills and mountains and lots of water. What happened to the guy who had an environment/history show on PBS about AL? Was it called Discovering AL? We use to enjoy that and don't see it on anymore. Can't remember his name but had a PhD in the environment and was really good.

Personally, I hope not! Last time I was there a couple of years ago, you couldn't...
No mention of it in the Nature Conservancy's website...they own the place...
