Bama gators!
Alligators were almost instinct in Alabama at one time. They have been reported far as North Alabama but I don't see how hunting will help the population.

Well, hunting reduced their population to near extinction 40-50 years ago, so it's silly to assume that hunting today wouldn't keep it in check.

Same thing in FL.. they almost became extinct from over hunting. Now they have to have a permit to hunt/trap them

The only reason alligators are in North Alabama is because some 'brilliant' eco-engineer back in the 70s thought that releasing a few into the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge would control the beaver population. The gators would kill the beavers then the cold weather would kill the gators. Now we have 12' to 14' gators with no natural enemies except man (and we aren't supposed to kill them).
Beware the unintended consequences of fooling with Mother Nature...

Someone in Decatur told me that too. Yeah thought they wouldn't survive.

I don't know if you notice it in AL but it seems that in FL where I grew up it's hotter in the summer and it's hotter for more months of the year than it used to be and that would IMO be favorable to larger growth in cooler climates.. A lot of the gator habitat in FL is drying up and it's rare to see a 8 footer let alone a 12' to 14'. I'm sure that eco-engineer didn't forsee that either.
