The country group Alabama is from Fort Payne and have their museum there. They also have a fiddler's festival I think, but was a few weeks ago (I'm not too sure about all the details).

Fiddler's convention is coming up in Athens...I think it's Labor Day weekend. You should head to Nashville. It's not that from Alabama and it's ALL about both kinds of music - country AND Western.

There is a little known area in Alabama called Sand Mountain that has been studied both state side and international for their unique sound in the country music genre. We have a rich tradition in music across all genre.

Also, check out Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

Alabama has a rich history of influential country, blues and blue grass artist including Hank Williams, Emmy Lou Harris, Alabama, Percy Sledge, Clarence Carter, Wilson Pickett among many others.

I have included some links.

The Sand Mountain Region around Boaz and Attalla, Alabama - Off the Beaten Path in Alabama

You should really look for any revival singings - see if any are listed on the internet. They are a true look into the influences of country music.

Enjoy your stay!
