NEEDED.. Information for financial help to pay for medical treatment
My son, who has insurance that he has never used, has fallen and injured his knee and needs an MRI. He is unable to work and has no money for the MRI, which is the same as his deductible. Is there any help out there?

How do you know he needs an MRI?
Doesn't the county provide medical service at no additional charge to you?

The MRI costs the same as the deductible? Then it doesn't matter, right? You're out that amount of money no matter what. Of course, the MRI is just to help the doc determine the problem. Medical care after the deductible is paid would qualify for insurance coverage. And more than likely, when they send the MRI bill, the insurance co. will negotiate a hefty discount. Which means you still have to spend up to the deductible.
OR, you can tell the doc's office that you have no insurance. They may still offer you the discount.
Charles, why would the county cover it? There is state Medicaid, but there is no county medical assistance.

FWIW, something like that used to require just an X-ray or two to establish what the problem was.
An MRI won't cure it in any event. The doc wants a second opinion to cover his derriere before suggesting treatment options.

I thought maybe the county covers it like it does in Los Angeles County. I really don't know.

With nothing but a one-line post I do not even dare to start guessing. The patient needs to get his medical information together and contact his doctor and his insurance.
An annual deductable can easily be in the dollar range of a partial MRI but that does not necessarily mean the amount has to be paid before services will be covered. HOMEWORK FOR THE PATIENT. Unless the mother is authorized she will not be able to do any of his research.
