going to work in Albertville, where to live...
My boyfriend is getting transfered to Albertville, and from what I hear, that may not be where we want to live. Any advice or opinions are greatly appreciated! We need a cheap rental for now (baby on way, no money to spend), in a decent area. We are fine with a small town and don't want a long commute to Albertville. What town, for the money, is our best bet? Would like to be near the lake, but not if too pricey. Is Albertville really all that bad? Are there any other towns around with a population over 10,000 that would be worth looking at? Thank you very much.

If you want a cheap rental, Albertville is a fine place. Anywhere you're at is near the lake. It's a very small town. Huntsville - big town - is just 20 or 30 minutes way. Good luck, dear.

Albertville is like most places, there are good and bad things no matter where you live. Not sure what you have heard about Albertville but it is not a bad place to live. The people are friendly, lots of good restaurants and lots of stores. Look for the good in a place as the bad things show up soon enough.
I have a friend who lives in Albertville. He has a nice new home in a new subdivision for around 100k.
What are the bad things you have heard so the good people here can tell you if what you have heard is as bad as you think it is.
Where do you live now?

The only bad thing that we've heard is the rather recent influx of immigrant workers for the tyson plant. I think that it is no big deal at all, since now we live in Iowa (in a city of 250,000) and the town that I grew up near went from a population of 400 old farmers to about 8,000 non-english speaking hispanics, russians, and hacidic (sp?) jews (speak hebrew), in the time period of a year. It brought some initial problems to the town, but I feel that problems always arise when there is a major change in any area's population, and that with growth brings problems. I've just heard that there is a little more crime in Albertville, but after looking I see that 2004 was a bad year and since then the crime has significantly dropped and seems like things may have settled down there. Thank you very much for your responses. I really appreciate it.

What brings you to Albertville? Talk to commercial lenders at the local banks. They know all the local rental property as it is either collateral on their books or they would like to see it there. No, I am not kidding as I know most of them.
I do not think one can judge a town by statistics. Being an immigrant - I do not see myself as a threat to the safety of local citizens in Birmingham.

There are immigrants in Albertville, but from what I have seen they live and work in certain areas. Most hispanics don't cause problems. The biggest thing I think is they drive without insurance and often after having too much cerveza which causes problems no matter who you are. If you are going to rent I would suggest your bf ask people where he will be working. They should be able to steer you in the right direction. Good Luck.. this is a nice area and remember to look for the good.. the bad shows up soon enough.

Look at Guntersville. The lake's there and home values will forever remain good because of it.
