Default Alternative/***** community in Dothan?

Greetings, I didn't know the title censor would block out the word que you ee ee are.

My elderly mother is moving from small-town Iowa to Dothan AL to be near her siblings in their twilight years. I visit her for an extended time every year.
I'm from backwoods, tie-dye & flannel dope-smoking Oregon and I've never been anywhere near the South. I'm genuinely curious about the culture. I have no agenda or axe to grind, I love Jesus, respect the local laws and always say Sir and Ma'am, but I need to know; is there any place for me to have a break and be organic, lesbian, tattooed and West-coasty-toasty counterculturish in Dothan, Alabama? Coffeeshops? Microwbrews? Poetry slams? Alternative bookstores or music venues?

I'm in search of information, not rhetorical debates or arguments.

I think there are a couple of small gay bars in Dothan, and then there's Splash Bar in Panama City if you feel like driving. Keep in mind most of the gay bars down here are techno oriented, so that may not be what you prefer (I know I sure don't). Gay people here are also less likely to be politically left leaning compared to the west coast and more likely to be similar to what you find in Iowa.

Maybe some locals could tell you more about bookstores and coffee shops but I suspect your best bet will be Barnes & Noble and Books-A-Million.
