Is Moulton a good place for Land Enthusiast?
I need very honest description of Moulton from some of the residents. I would appreciate it very much. Seems like a good outdoor location for a person who wants to live self-sufficiently on the land?

Since no one else has posted, I'll try to give you a description. Yes, there is a lot of land, and good land, in Lawrence County. Agriculture is the main industry. Lots of very pretty places, land is fairly inexpensive...not like south Alabama cheap, but certainly cheaper than Madison County. That said....the schools are very poor and you would have to come to Decatur or go to the Florence area for private schools. And this is probably the LEAST progressive county in the entire state.

Sure.
There is probably still a KKK chapter somewhere in the county. Harsh, but there it is.

Yah I did, but my wife came and was attacked by the neighbor's 22 dogs and that was the end of Arab. It was like Iraqi war in an Arab place. We had to withdraw and we need to re-employ somewhere else. We lost some money on the Arab property. I thought Moulton would be the next trial. Probably we could sit down with some KKK and resolve our disputes, whatever they are. We are still new to the KKK phenomenon.

I hope she was not hurt. I'm sorry that Arab didn't work out for you, and hope that you will soon find the place you are looking for.

Ouch! Both you and your wife must be real troopers to still be pursuing the dream after that. Unfortunately, dog packs--both semi-wild and domesticated--are not as rare as commonly thought throughout rural and small-town Alabama, as you are doubtlessly now aware. Ever since the Mayor of Tuskegee (Johnny Ford) was attacked while jogging near his home several years ago, I have not gone unarmed on any trips into the wilds of Alabama. And recently I heard an unconfirmed account of an attach upon a father-son hunting duo by six bobcats! Puts a whole new face on our "walks in the woods".
I too am sorry that Arab didn't work out. The Moulton area has many small farm properties that would support the lifestyle you seek. However, resolution of disputes with the KKK is not a viable option. You are talking about the faceless scum of the earth--you won't even know who they are, and will perhaps be unable to comprehend either the depth of their hatred or the flawed rationale for their beliefs.
That said, I don't recall any notable reports of hate group activity in the Moulton area, and I note that at least 20 percent of Lawrence County's population is non-caucasian and is fairly evenly distributed throughout the county and Moulton proper. I have relatives with deep Lawrence County ties and I will try to get them to come on line to discuss this issue. Southlander's thoughts should surely be accorded respect, given both her long-term residency in the near communities and her reasoned thoughts on the many topics she has previously addressed on this forum.

Thank you very much Nalabama. I appreciate your very valuable comments. I also enjoyed and valued Southlander's remarks. I always look forward to goodness in this forum. I agree I must be nuts to be following this dream of mine. I am dyeing to get somewhere in the rural area and experience the "good life", away from traffic and noise. My wife is not that enthusiastic but is willing to go along, even if only for weekends for her. I want to get my hands on the home-grown vegetables and enjoy the birds sing, if they are actually there, anywhere.
Again thank you .

I grow a few vegetables and enjoy the birds sing in my own back yard! It can be done.
