Can someone tell me more about these two town's and the area? I,m a blue collar type guy looking to retire in the near future and get out of Florida. After 40 years of watching this state be invaded and distroyed by crazy people, it's time to "git"! I do not care about schools or being close to fancy big city amenities and high paying jobs. Just looking for nice people, a slower pace of life and low low crime. From what I have found up to this point, this area seems worth looking into. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cool Fits the description

Centre fits the description....small, quiet, friendly. Lots of retirees there; the rest are like me - weekenders - from Atlanta mostly - fishing and enjoying the lake.

It's dirt poor. There's not a decent place to eat, unless you like fast food. It's a dry county and no decent restaurant chain is going to locate there until they change that.

Fishing, water skiing and other lake activities is pretty much all there is to do. There is one drive in movie in town. They do have a Wal-mart.

If it was me, I would look at Gadsden or Jacksonville. They're in the same general area but nicer if you plan on living there year-round. There are more amenities, more to do.

I'd stay away from Gadsden if I were you. I'm FROM there. Gadsden is a good place to be "from". Jacksonville is extremely small, but close to the THINGS to do in Anniston and Gadsden.

I lived in Leesburg (Centre) for about 12 years after retiring from the military. A dumb marriage changed all that and I moved to Florida. Really was a bad decision (both) the marriage AND giving up my house on Lake Weiss. Miss it until this day.

If you want a "layed back community" and just have a little peace in your life. I recommend the Centre area. :-)
