Default Cities around Talledega

It appears my husband will be getting a job offer where we will be relocating to the Alabama area. I am so thrilled to be getting out of Florida after seeing its downslide for 38 years now.
Right now we "think" his post will be Talledega. After much research I see Talledega is not really recommended as a great place to live.
Was wondering if anyone could suggest some cities around the area say within a 40 mile radius that are famly friendly, reasonable cost of living, low crime, pretty quiet but not so quiet my 3 year old is pulling hers and my hair out. Look forward to hearing some feedback. Thanks

You could look in Trussville. Its about 30 miles or so from Talledega. My friend move there from Tampa, FL. She loves it there. She lives in a gated community and she loves having a Publix about a mile from her house. There are lots of kids in the neighborhood as well. She feels safe there. There is plenty of shopping between there and Talledega. What is your price range for a house or are you renting house or an apartment?

I don't live there yet but this is the general area that my husband and I have chosen to retire to.

We didn't want to live in the actual city of Talladega so fanned out. We liked Sylacauga, Childresburg and Alexander City....I myself am leaning towards Sylacauga. Now mind you I don't need to worry about schools, so I really can't help you there.
We looked mainly at prices, medical facilities (husband is diabetic) and for me...shopping not too terribly far away.
The sites for property I've been nosing about are
LandsofAmerica.com - Land for sale by Larkinsville, Alabama - Jackson County - 9.7 acres
Alalandco | Land For Sale In Alabama | Alabama Land For Sale

and of course Realtor.com

Good luck in your search and I'll be checking back from time to time to see the responses.

Thank you for your replies. Every little bit of information helps since I feel like we are moving up there blindly not knowing what areas to stay away from. We plan to rent a house at first so we can get a feel for the area that we want to stay in. Does anyone know of a resource online to find houses available for rent in the area? Looking forward to the move though. I only hear great things about Alabama.
