I was wondering what the properrty taxes o n$100,000 home would be. i heard theres a homestead exemption. Also whats avg utilities on avg 1200 sqf home.

I don't live in Dothan and not sure we have anyone who posts regularly from there. You can check here Revenue Commission (http://www.houstoncounty.org/Revenue_Commission/Revenue_Commission.htm - broken link)

I would guess the taxes would be around 250.00. I live in NE AL and my utilities run 150.00 - 200.00 a month for electric, gas,water, sewer and garbage depending on the time of year.

I think the taxes would be closer to $400, with insurance being around $500. Insurance in the southernmost counties has been creeping up lately due to higher hurricane risk, but it's still not too bad.

Electricity for that size home should be around $100-150 per month. If you're really frugal (use clothes line, take showers only, wash clothes in cold water, a/c @ 80F, etc) you may be able to get it under $100.

In Dothan-Houston County roughly 500 for property taxes and 700 per year for insurance for 100,000 home
