Default Southern/Local Products

I've now lived in Alabama for 2 years. Rest of my life, born and raised in California. Since living in the South, there are a few products that seem to be regional to the southeast that my husband and I have come to appreciate, such as:

Bluebell Ice Cream

Buffalo Rock Ginger Ale (Oh my, where have you been all my life?!)

Purity Sweet Acidophilus Milk (1% milk)

Gibson's White BBQ Sauce

I'm sure there are many other products sold in Alabama grocery stores that cannot be found in California or outside of the southeast/Alabama. Maybe many other excellent products that I pass by every day simply because they are unfamiliar to me.

Do you have any other good regional or state products that you'd recommend we try?

Why, I love this thread you've started. I LOVE Buffalo Rock Ginger Ale. Here are four more I can think of right off the bat.

Dale's Steak Sauce
Whitfield Dill Pickles
Alaga Syrup
Golden Flake Potato Chips

And, of course, there's Grow Alabama, the movement started by local farmers.

SIster Shubert rolls. We could not get them in Wisconsin and craved them! The woman started this business by bringing rolls to church suppers and the demand grew. Can't remember where the little town she is from is located in AL. Her daughter also has a really good cookie business going now. I sent some to a friend in GA and she said they wre VERY VERY good.

There's this little cheese place in north Shelby County off 280 near Sterrett. It's this little hole-in-the-wall place that has the best stuff: Millers Cheese House. Yum. I've made the pilgrimage a couple of times.

Lots of honey producers in Alabama, too: http://www.alfafarmers.org/commodities/bee_honey.phtml

And there are actually some vineyards in Alabama, although I have not sampled their wares.

Honey is good. Wine is not.

What wine have you tasted?
