I'm from Gadsden, originally. Brother went to Hokes Bluff High School, and I lived in Leesburg (next to Centre) from 1985 to 1995.
Both towns are good examples of "old south", but Hokes Bluff is more a location than a town. Not any "town" to it, but more a rural housing community for people not wanting to "live in Gadsden". It parallels the Coosa river for the length of the community and housing is less expensive there.
Centre actually has a little "town" complete with courthouse, etc., and even a K-Mart and WalMart these days. :-) Housing is also relatively inexpensive there, unless you want to live on Lake Weiss which has become ridiculously expensive.
