Well, personally, I think the "Christians" give the state a bad reputation. Particularly those with extreme right wing views and beliefs. And before anyone gets their panties in a wad, I don't mean all Christians. How do I put this . . . if you get upset, you're probably one of the people I'm referring to. The real Christians understand the difference.

I think the state is very resistant to change and that is the ultimate problem.

I'd rather Alabama have too few tourists than too many.

RIGHT! Too many so called baptists here in Alabama are making Alabama have a bad reputation. They don't want anything here. It's crazy. We need more blacks and Democrats to help bring Alabama forward! It is what it is!

What? Alabama has one of the highest black populations in the whole country. Many of these black folks are even more "religious" than the whites.

I'm talking about in Alabama's government. Alabama needs more blacks from the Black Belt in the Legislature! POINT BLANK! I feel like blacks from the Black Belt have want more because they come from a paucity of things.

Default Alabama tourist attraction

Parts of Alabama are a good place to live, but there is little of the attractions that will ever likely make it a serious tourist attraction. Having lived other places, I don't know that Alabama is any more "racist" than most other locales. There are a LOTof people who spend an inordinate amount of time being consumed with the subject though.

I see what you are saying for example whats going on now in the blackbelt with this gaming thing. They don't want the black belt to gain any economic wealth and thats the TRUTH.

<sigh> You do know that "black belt" refers to the SOIL, not the ethnicity of the people, right?

Do a satellite view on Google maps and you will see an odd crescent formation in Alabama (around Tuscaloosa) curving northwest into Mississippi. THAT is the black belt. However, the other interpretation is humorous to those of us who figured it out...

Anyone who thinks that gaming is a road to wealth for the black belt area needs to look at what gaming has done to most areas...not just in today's environment, but historically. (This gambling craze isn't this country's first go-round with the infatuation with state sanctioned and sponsored gambling.)

What it creates at best for most people in an area where it is brought in are more minimum wage service jobs. There are exceptions (there always are) but it's no panacea.
