I liked what you said in your original post. I was just pointing out that your o.p. came off has having it's own set of unconscious assumptions.

I think Tuscaloosa or Mobile are more liberal than cities to the north. We get a lot of ppl who bash AL because of stero-types on TV or in the movies or they come expecting things to be the way they use to live. Come on down for a visit.

Actually, by definition, a liberal does not fit in anywhere. A liberal does not accept the status quo and pushes for a greater flexibility and acceptance within a society. The conservative who never peeps a word and follows all the rules religiously fits in anywhere and is exceedingly easy to manipulate, even though he will deny it vehemently.

Default looking forward to the move

I am really looking forward to becoming an Alabama resident. Everyone has been so helpful so can I ask one more question. What are the best sources to find a room to rent for a few weeks until school is out and my family can join me?

What about Hale County? We were looking at Moundville as a possibility. What high schools in the Tuscaloosa area have good track teams?
When one uses a newspaper( or other media ) to express their views--" I have been very involved over the years in the midwest with writing columns....." ---one should expect that they will get some heat over their views.

The old saying--" if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen"--comes to mind.

Perhaps in the midwest, you were ---preaching to the choir .

That may not be the case in Alabama.

Google the large hotel/motel chains and ask for a extended stay rate. There may even be an "extened stay" in Tuscaloosa.
