Default Gantt Lake

Anyone go to Gantt Lake much? We just discovered it and it's less than an hour drive. How expensive is the waterfront property there? Would love to have a lot to build a lakehouse. Also, where on the lake is the best place to go?? Also I heard that the Andalusia Walmart is the largest in the nation--is that true?

For prices it would be best to check with local realtors,As for the Wal Mart Super Center yes it is if you count all the acerage included with it,but the building itself is not,but its still nice.

Default Gantt Lake

We bought a house on Gantt lake approx. 3 years ago. At that time, lots were $45K - $85K. Houses were $125K - 210K. After hurricane Ivan the property values soared. Lots are now $100K - $175K. Houses are $250K+.
The houses are not selling as quickly but they prices are still pretty high. The lake does have some shallow areas but if you have a pontoon boat most places are deep enough to accomodate that type of boat. It is a wonderful peaceful lake.

I went to Gantt Lake for a boating visit- fell in love with the area. Bought a house there and now Sell Real Estate on the Lake. It is a great lake. Great boating & Fishing. Prices are very stable and the market has been steady. Moderator cut: advertising

Folkart,

Gantt Lake can be a lot of fun and is the largest freshwater lake within an hour and a half drive of most of the FL panhandle. The fishing is only average (in my experience), but that's why the pasttime is called "fishing" instead of "catching." It is always a pleasant experience, though you should fish in the mornings and evenings after the weather warms enough for boaters and watersports enthusiasts -- the lake can get busy on a nice sunny, summer day. We go for a boat ride on many days, and it's a great way to pass a couple hours on a nice day.

There are lots still available around Gantt Lake, though it is significantly built up. No big surprise since the lake was established around 1923. I'd recommend that you contact a realtor to see what is available simply because not all lots are in the MLS. I'm not a realtor, but I bought a waterfront home on Gantt Lake through one 2 years ago (and was satisfied with the experience). If you're up there again, recommend that you get a copy of the Andalusia real estate guide. It is published on the first Saturday of each month. You can also get it off of the Andalusia Star News website (under "special sections") after about the 7th day of the month -- Andalusia Star News: Front. Quite a number of realtors with listings in there. Will be happy to give you "free advice" on my contacts if desired. If I were considering buying a lot today, I would try to find one on the west side of West Coleman Road or on the upper end of Greenbriar Loop.

We really enjoy it there and go up at least every other weekend. It is a great change of scenery, is quiet, and is a place to get away from the world.
