This subject is well covered in the Australia/New Zealand forum

As an Australian I would just like to apologize on the idiocy of our Prime Minister
Robin Williams only made the 'English Rednecks' comment as a light hearted joke
Our PM retaliating by insulting Alabama was very childish to say the least. Plus I would
bet my life our PM has never stood on Alabama soil. I think he just picked a Southern state out of a hat

Trust me, he won't be PM for much longer

Oh he will be PM, he'll just buy votes of all the unemployed bogans here.

But we can only hope that his China-licking ass gets the boot.

K Rudd's opinion regardless of his position is not the direct opinion of the majority of Australians.

Believe me, we cringed with embarrassment when we heard how he insulted Alabama over what was clearly a joke. He had no need to say anything yet he went and stuck both feet in his mouth. Everyone I've talked to about it here has felt the same - that he was a complete ****head.

Sorry Alabama!

I'm sure no one from Alabama would suggest Australia is a country founded by convicts.

I watched the vid and read the PMs comments. Personally, I don't think it's that big a deal. RW was just joking, and aren't people in politics uptight anyway? Maybe if I was from Australia or Alabama I'd view it differently. Anyway, rednecks can be pretty cool, Alabama is a nice state, and the Aussies have friggen awesome accents.

Seriously, people just need to lighten up.
Exactly!!!

I'm absolutely certain that as "educated" citizens we have far more important and productive things to do with our time.

If any "good" to come out of this, it's the simple fact that many more Aussies are wanting to know and learn more about Alabama. Who knows? You may see an influx of Aussies travelling to Alabama in the next few years.

PS - Whatever happened to the band Alabama?
