The best place to live in Alabama is Daphne. South East AL. Hometown feel, great schools and wonderful weather. You are 45 min. from the sugar sands of Gulf Shores. Down town Mobile is just far enough across Mobile Bay and the Casinos in Biloxi are about an hour and a half west on I-10. Fairhope is just south of Daphne and is also a very beautiful place but a little more pricey than Daphne. Daphne is Hight Quality living in a Southern Way. It has been called the cith of Parks and also Jubilee City see www.daphneal.com.

Cool Many Appealing Things About Alabama, particularly Fairhope area . . .

L.A. (Lower Alabama) -- interesting people (Southern and non-Southern), art, gardening, greenery, golf courses, tennis courts, good schools, interesting people, new libraries, historic houses, fun events, great music, natural pine/oak beaches in Fairhope, beautiful sand beaches in south Baldwin County, new nature-related developments, 5 Rivers Nature Center just opened on thousands of acres along Mobile Bay/Delta -- and have we mentioned interesting people from all 50 states and further?

It's so fantastic here that even Californians are moving in and happy with the place. Now that's "coastal cool."

Just as long as they don't bring their politics and ideas of expensive nanny government regulations. Californian eco-nuts have just about ruined all that was good about Vermont.

...and what's this I hear about hot, muggy, and humid?? My hubby just landed in Birmingham and it's nice and cool out. Or is IT lurking just around the corner of May into June??

By the way, would you say North Alabama is hotter and more humid than Pensacola in the summer time? I've visited there many-a-time (LOVED the beach, not the jellyfish), usually in June...so I KNOW...can't even take a brisk morning walk without getting drenched with sweat.

Default Moving home soon!

Ok, I have seen the ones who can't wait to get out and I have seen the ones who will never leave. If you want to know how I feel Just pick up a copy of the group **ALABAMA** song title, My homes in ALABAMA and pay close atten to the words. It speaks for itself. ( and me )

I grew up in N. Birmingham (Forestdale area). Moved out of state when I got out of school in 1977. Moved to Houston, Texas. Talking about hot and muggie. Alabama is NOT in the same class as HOUSTON. I would sweat indoors in the sumers.

Then I moved out west to Arizona. Talking about HOT, 115 in June and thats just the begining. But, It's a DRY HEAT !! (my butt it's dry)

But, to tell you the truth about what I miss about Alabama, It's the PEOPLE !

When was the last time you passed someone on the street (stranger) and made eye contact and had them say, Good afternoon? How are you today?

When was the last time you had someone rush to get the door for you at a store and it wasn't family or your about to drop something and someone says here, let me get that for you?

When was the last time you had a child ( under 18 ) say, excuse me, or when you ask them a question and they say Yes Sir or no Sir. instead of
No, or look at you like your stupid without a answer.

Do you know everyone on your Block? The street over? what about the
subdivision? Think about how many times you go into a store and the clerk knows you by your first name?

Everyone down plays the schools in Alabama. What they don't say is that they are to lazy to start there own kids education at home. They want someone else to teach their own kids. My kids new how to write their own names and address and phone number before the first grade. Yes, I'm from ALABAMA !!!!

You get out of something only as much as your willing to put into it. Yes, Alabama has it's faults , Yes, Alabama has it good side too. It's up to everybody to make the faults better and to shine on the good things. I'm trying like hell to move back to Alabama with my family. Why? Because I have seen what can be done if your willing to put your HEART into it and Like I said, I MISS THE PEOPLE .
God Bless & See you soon, Woodzman

P.S. Just remember, Know matter where you go , It's up to you to make the best of it.

I would say it's hotter and more humid, because we don't have gulf breezes to cool us. Tell hubby to enjoy the cool weather, 'cuz it won't last!
I will say that I have travelled to 1 place that had even more miserable summer weather than Alabama: Centralia, Ill. Don't know how they can stand it.

So far, from what I read, Alabama isn't bad. Here in Florida we have these two-legged pests I can't seem to get rid of!

They come over to write you a 500.00 fine if you work on your car, or don't like your landscaping. Do you have the zoning Nazis over there?
