Those two areas are pretty random and more than 67 miles apart. Ardmore is on the Tennessee State line and Hanceville is between Cullman and Birmingham. Where exactly is the job going to be?
Cost of living is fine for bost of those areas.

They say Gadsden is the retired spot to be. Once voted in the Army's #1 spot to retire. Theres good shopping and good food there. You can feel free to email with anyother questions you might have on the area.

There are a lot of nice places in Alabama. Take Ft Payne. Ft Payne is located between two mountains Sand Mountain and Lookout Mountain. The electricity comes from TVA, cheaper than some of the other electric companies, the taxes aren't that bad. The prices of homes in the area are fairly good, you just need to know around the year it was built. Whether you want acreage or an in town home. You can always homestead and if retired 65 yrs with in a certain income, no property taxes. Also, if you fish and are a certain age, no licenses are required to fish you just got to have your drivers license at all times with you. The worst thing about Alabama is the humid heat, if your not from a humid place get ready for that.

I'm from Gadsden, living in Florida. Much as I hate taxes, insurance and the heat, I'd rather live here than there. The population profile has changed considerably in the last 30 years and not for the better.

The Steel Plant shut down years ago and Goodyear struggles on. Water sports are abundant there, but housing has shot up in recent times.

I was "there" when it was decided in a Chamber of Commerce meeting to "market" Gadsden as a City for Retiree's. Makes for good marketing, but I don't SEE it that way. Find a smaller or larger place in Alabama less dependent on single industries, e.g., Anniston or Dothan.

Default Shoals Area

Have you looked at the Shoals Area (Florence, Muscle Shoals, Sheffield, Tuscumbia)? If you play golf, you would be in heaven! It's a safe, beautiful area, and very retirement-friendly.

I am a senior citizen and moved to Arab, AL from Central FL in 05 and love it here. Small town 7,500 people, 20 minutes mol from Huntsville an hour drive to Birmingham. Depending on where in FL you live you will like home prices, you can buy a REALLY nice new house for less than 200K or less depending on what you are looking for in a house. Property taxes are low as is homeowner's insurance. My utilities are much less than in FL even in winter. I paid less than a 100K for 1459 sq ft brick house with 3/4 acre and property taxes are less than $200.00 a year, homeowner's less than $500.00 a year. There is very little crime here and the people are friendly. Of course there are things that some won't like but it is all in what is important to you. If you would like more info you can send me message on this board.
There are a lot of great areas around and I am sure you will get a lot of info on different places. Just give us an idea of what your requirements are and you will get a lot of info.
