Welcome to AL! Anything I can do for you - let me know. There is always coffee, wine and beer not to mention a box of kleenex, a can of off , DSL access and dinner for the rest of the family.

I strongly agree with the Gulf Shores suggestion.
If you do go, check out a little hole-in-the-wall called the Wheel House restaurant. The owner is from New Zealand & the food is quite good and one of the less expensive places near the coast.

Then head for the Flora-Bama, probably the most infamous dive bar on the planet. Yeah, it's touristy, but in a sleazy, disreputable way.

If you are visiting alabama you have to go Montgomery, to really see what this state is about.Alot of the other stuff you can see anywhere else but you can't miss Montgomery.

You're kidding right? Montgomery's a nice town, but is really eclipsed by Birmingham, Mobile, and Huntsville. All three towns have a lot more to do and a lot more to see.

Heck, Tuscaloosa has more to do and see than Montgomery, and it's half the size
Poor old Montgomery. Everyone in the state picks on it.
The state capitol and the Blount Cultural Park really are pretty nice, though, and Montgomery is unmistakably Alabama. If you want to see what everyday Alabama is, then I agree that Montgomery is as good a representative as any.

. . . and don't forget Oakman. Nothing ever happened in Oakman and if you visit there you'll understand why.

No. Everybody drives through Montgomery. Stopping at the Shell station to fill up before heading for the beaches doesn't count. And I say that as somebody who worked three days a week in Montgomery for several years.
