All this new "forum stuff" still confuses me some times - I browse through it & see many different perspectives & attitudes & positions in life both presented & questioned & it is quite evident to me that we have a treasure of minds & souls looking for & willing to go for the challenge of adventure & the unknown - that is what made this countrywhat it is! - GO FOR IT! Bring with you what you are proud of (yourself!?) - be willing to work, accept what you find where you go or wind up (it was there before you ever thought of being there!) & accept & learn & build from that.
I was especially taken by the response to an inquiry w/re: life in Delta Jct. which sort of said 'if you want to come here & be part of what is here - WELCOME! - if you want to find fault with what is here then there may be somewhere that is better suited for you. I like that response, especially with the reference to the fact the individual felt the place was well suited to the rearing of young people with opportunities as we can present to them. Thus I come to the real reason for my presence - I am looking for input from anyone who might be able to provide me info w/re: relocating permantly to Alaska - specifically the Delta Jct area at this point. Our primary interests/concerns would be the housing market, schools (w/a freshman & a junior w/3.5+ gpa w/sports-music-vo/ed-), extra-currucular employment for students, civic acitivity/organizations such as Scouts, CAP, etc., & churches in the community. I really have no clue what is in the area but I have 2 boys who like all kinds of outdoors sports - hunting, fishing, shooting, camping, motorcycles, airplanes-rc & full scale, -- basically you name it & if boys like it ???? If anyone out there has some input or some direction they would be willing to extend I would appreciate greatly. I have tried to investigate the school & realtry sites w/o much real valuable info resulting. Replys can be either via this service or more preferably my personal e-mail - grayfox@midrivers.com Thanks to ALL! & GOD BLESS! |

jhoward,
I will try to answer some of your questions regarding Delta area. 1. Housing: Housing here in Delta took a big upturn a couple of years ago but has turned and now seems to have stabilized. Earlier there was not enough housing to meet the demand and prices took off, now things have stabilized and new homes are being built and some older ones are coming on the market. Prices are anywhere from 70K to 425K with a good average for 3 bed 2 bath 1500 ft squared at roughly 180-210K this usually gives the buyer at least an acre if not 5 acres of land. Land values are anything from 3500 to 10.5K an acre depending on views no view with lots off spruce run in the lower range while mountain view and mix of trees runs in the upper. 2. Schools : We have three main schools in the area with one being the high school and one being the elementary school and the final being the middle school. The high school has lots of sporting activities, but with a limited season the main ones are Basketball and Hockey. We do try to have a track team a baseball and football teams but it is not every year this happens. We also have an excellent shooting team. 3. Scouts: Scouts have been on and off depending on how many people we can get to assist as scoutmasters. right now things look good for scouts. 4. Churches: We have a great variety of churches in the community, a few being non denomination christian, Presbitarian, Lutherin, Mormon, Baptist, Catholic. I am sure that most any of your desires could be filled. 5.Outdoor activities: Delta is in the heart of the inertior and we have great hunting and fishing in the area and we are just a few hours away from Valdez for saltwater fishing. So I hope that I have answered a few of your questions and believe me I am not trying to be the all an knowing answer man for the community as I surely do not know all the happenings around here, but after 34 years I can give you an overview of what we offer. Be well and I hope I have helped in some way. Henry |
