Default Prince of Wales for us!

Well, Prince of Wales is an acquired taste and is not for everyone. But, as one who moved here several years ago from the east coast also, it has been a great place to raise our children. You can truly take a step back from the rat race here, or keep yourself as busy as you want. You can focus on the simple, basic things about family life, without as many distractions.
As far as real estate, often word-of-mouth gets you better results than realtors. True, homes are expensive and there are a lot of old trailers. But there are new homes being built constantly, many of them beautiful cedar-sided homes.
Food is expensive and many folks try creative ways to get better, cheaper produce and household goods by ordering from off-island (Costco, Circle Farms). This economy, however, also forces me to look at how materially I live, to seriously consider what I need and want and what I can do without.
As for the school, we have had good experiences although there are many folks out there with reason to complain. We have had a lot of very successful kids go onto big name colleges and other accomplishments. We have graduates attending Georgetown and Yale and students who have spent semesters abroad during high school! We have both students (and adults) who think small and those who think worldly.
I have always admired the "can do" attitude of here. Despite the odds and inconveniences, many of those who stay here become tough and resourceful. You would meet some amazing men and women if you came here. And you would meet many FRIENDLY people.
And in times of crisis, the support that folks give to one another is amazing.
I can't say if this is the place for you and your family. I can only say that it has been the place for mine. Good luck in your decision-making.

Victory is on a distinguished road
Yes, Housing can be a challenge, but it is possible to find rentals. It is a very friendly place, and if you have children there is a lot to do and the schools are excellent, the offer wonderful opourtunties for students.

There is also an Aquatic Center with a 25 yard heated indoor pool with a water slide, a kiddie pool, swim lessons, a competitive swim team, a workout room with aerobic machines, free weights and a univesal gym, and for adults a hot tub and sauna. The Craig City Gym offers aerobic classes, open volleyball, rollerskating and an archery club.

You can get most of what you need in Craig. There are several espresso coffee places, including a bookstore. 7 churches in Craig.

You can find the type of culture you like, there are some rednecks, many people fish and hunt, but we also have an arts council and lots of local artists and crafters.

I have been here for 20 years and it is a wonderful place to live and raise a family.

Hey--tell Percy at the Klawock high school that I said hi. And I'm so glad to know that he never did get into any real trouble over that silly little incident with the video cam and that he's been allowed to keep his job all these years.

He still works there as a janitor, right? At least he was the last time I was there, four months ago. Is his wife still teaching?
