Is the culture in Alaska a lot like Canada's? Since it's closer to canada and further from the US? Or is it still like the US culture wise?

I would have to say that the culture is closer to US, with a definite lean to the right. Not to say there aren't liberals here in Alaska, just that they are not quite as rabid as, say, the liberal Californians. More tempered with a judicious helping of reason. And the Republicans tend to be a little more moderate in their stance (at least in Anchorage).

Currently, we are going through the throes of political scandals and payoffs from Veco Construction. The embarassing thing isn't the number of pols being indicted, it's the bargain basement prices they were selling themselves for. In Chicago, you couldn't buy even a city inspector for some of the prices these state legislators were putting on their votes. Personally, I wonder if you could buy the influence of a dog-catcher for these prices. A few hundred bucks.

If I'd known they were that cheap, I'd have bought a couple for my very own.

Depends on where you go in Alaska.

Most parts of the Panhandle have been affected by the Pacific Northwest. Wasilla has been infected by the deep south.

I'd have to say we aren't too much like Canada since we're populated by American citizens who mostly came from elsewhere. The main cultural difference between the U.S. and Canada is that Canada has never had to fight for her freedom, as we have. That still shows in our culture, and we still have that particular edge in our culture.
