Default Finally flying to my new home in Barrow

Hello everyone its been a long time since i posted here, have been super busy getting everything ready for this move to Barrow.

My wife has been up there now for a month with my daughter and 1 of our dogs. They seem to be enjoying themselves alot, might be that the teacher community is there supporting them.

Couple of quick questions, can i get by for a few months with just a Quad or will i really be hurting for a car ? Wife will be carpooling with teachers and kids will be on the bus. I was told the taxi's were fairly inexpensive so i was just figuring on getting a Quad for the time being.

Should i be considering a Snow Machine ? Or is that more a luxury then a necessity ?

Anyone else use Welcome to Full Circle Foods for produce ? or maybe Mike's Quality Meats if you have or are currently using them can you tell me pro's and con's ? If either is really bad maybe offer up an alternative ? I am a Type 2 diabetic so having carb free food is very important.

Also, is GCi or ASTAC better for internet, wife is currently using ASTAC DSL, but it is extremely slow (for obvious reasons) I was considering GCi but i hate bandwidth caps with a passion.

Anyhow, i am very excited about tomorrow, my flight should be in Barrow around 7:30-8:00 pm.

Thanks in advance for anyone who replies i really do appreciate your time.

Floyd can tell you what is good to get there, but four wheelers in the summer are pretty common and cheaper than a car to get there. Snowmachines are good, but at subzero temps, sometimes having a car is much nicer way to get around.

This time of year, you may want a four wheeler, couple months to play still and get around easily.

Hope all works out well for you and your family there!

Thank you for the reply Starlite9

The wife an I really do want to get a car but wow the shipping costs from Fairbanks or Anchorage is daunting to say the least.

I was looking at those side by side quads but there as much as a car with less amenities.

Anyhow, i am so excited about flying there, i am almost 40 and this will be my first flight ever so its going to be an adventure for me and my son.

Tomorrow you'll be here, and you can see for yourself. Plus there are hundreds of people to talk to that know what makes a difference. That's much better than advice from people on C-D that have no idea what it takes to live in Barrow.

Look me up in the phone book and we can have lunch or something!
