That is assuming they do 50 hour inspections. Not everybody has progressive maintenance.

I doubt that is the case. Clearly in some crashes it hardly comes as a surprise that an ELB is damaged sufficient to make in inoperable. it isn't possible to make an antenna that will function but can't be broken. Likewise an ELB isn't going to work in an airplane that sinks to the bottom of a river or lake.

I don't think, BTW, that Underwriters or Consumer Reports would be grading antenna or transmitter quality anyway.
