There is a small cabin/shelter up near the glacier at the end of the trail about mile 9 or so. Watch for bear up in that area though, I haven't seen one but sure have seen lots of signs of them being around.

Sure, there are quite a few old places around, some the state have taken over and others small groups and such.

This is Lane Hut, at Lane Prospect a couple miles past the end of Archangel Rd.This place is taken care of by a hiking group.

This one is near the top of Bullion Mountain. Willow Creek valley is to the right and Craigie Creek Valley is over the ridge to the left, and so is the old gold mine.

Is the cabin up Gold Mint easy to see? Is it in decent shape?

The Mint Hut is maintained by the Mountaineering Club of Alaska and is in really good shape, but you need to be a member, $15 yearly, to use the hut.

Not my photo...but here is a shot of the hut.

If you're really interested in hiking around the Hatcher Pass area get yourself "A Walk-About Guide to Alaska" Volume 3.
