anyone have information/experience taking this route?

we are in Prince George for the night and are thinking of switching our route to take the 16 as if going to Prince Rupert and then cutting up on the 37 back up to the 1 and then on in through Whitehorse and on into AK.....no real reason other than it just looks like it would be a helluva scenic route and we already have drove the other way.....

looks extremely unpopulated.....any info on getting diesel on the 37? I am sure there are places, but not sure enough to run out with the family in the car!

thanks for y'alls help!

It's shorter. That's the way I just came up last Thursday. A lot more senic then the Alcan. Watch for bears once you get past the Meziadin Junction. Top off your tank at Kitwanga. Gas was higher at the Bell II resort. I drive the Cassiar every chance I get.

Dease Lake is the next fuel stop I'd count on. They usually close at 9:00 p.m.

I guess you could always get fuel at Iskut but sometimes they are closed when the should be open. At least that's my experience.

that'll be perfect, we have 2 jerry cans with us so that'll give us plenty of a sight seeing safety net to fill up in Kit and Dease....really appreciate the help!

The Cassiar's definetely very scenic, and feels way more "wilderness-y" than most of the Alcan. I think there may be some confusion about the "Alaska-Stewart Highway" though. From the Cassiar, there's a side road that goes to Stewart British Colombia, and then pops across the border into Hyder, AK, but the Cassiar itself doesn't go through Stewart. That said, if you've got the time for that side trip (what, 40 miles each way or something?), go for it. It's some of the most spectacular and least traveled (paved!) road in the north. Beyond Hyder is a good gravel mining road which provides some even more spectacular glacier views, but that might be a little much for someone who's trying to make time.

Hyder ROCKS!!! Whenever I have extra time I make that side trip. Also some good bear viewing there.
