Anyone with info on Wrangell?
I have questions about living in Wrangell, have been to the normal sites and looked at information but would love info from someone other than the people who are trying to get me to sign on with them!
Can anyone give me information on the following:
Rental availability and costs?
Housing market? Have looked for Wrangell property at Alaska MLS and only one property there and its not for me.
Cost of living ie: food, fuel, utilities etc
I have spent a few hours there (ferry stop) but not enough time to make up my mind or get enough info to move from Anchorage so I need your help!
Thanks!

I lived there back in 1979 for a year. About 5 miles out of town, and worked for YACC. I was just out of highschool...but the place was wonderfull. I can't help with realtor info...just wanted to say it's was a very nice place. And I have yet to make it back. Weird.

Contact for Wrangell AK
We lived in Wrangell in 1999. Although it rained alot, the people were as friendly as you will ever find. A local businessman you can contact is Jeff Angerman at (907)874-3640. Jeff will give you the straight scoop about Wrangell and can give you every contact you will ever need. He owns Angerman's store which is an everything store (sports, fishing, wet wear, boots, literature).
I fully intend to visit Wrangell again. You might also check out Petersburg which is on the next island to the North. Just as nice scenery-wise but the people are just a little more standoffish. (My take, anyway.)
Good luck. If you call, tell him Jim Multerer says hi. His brother & I worked on a powerline in Wrangell. (Sadly, his brother died.)

Shany, dont get discouraged. Wrangell is one of my interests as well. If your normally adjusted and still cant get intelligent intel do the best on the info you get and GO.
Your gonna be indoors workin so what its raining. You got a job and the goods? get up the girly!!!!! Theres poorfolk that dont even have a leg to stand on makin the adventure.
You have it all , just add courage.
I spent months hiking thru corduroy bridges, mosquitos that never bothered me.
This whole Alaska thing is; Someone cant live thru other peoples experiences . Alaska is real.--- Take the job if your in the frame of mind of what if maybe I can make it .

I know nothing of Alaska, but my close friend taught in Wrangell for about 10 years, and would go back in a second. She loved it there.

Wrangell is a place that grows on you. I've been here 25 years and have no plans on leaving. There is a lot of opportunity in Wrangell if you love the outdoors and small town life. You can be as involved or uninvolved as you want. There are some great groups in Wrangell and all are very welcoming to new people and can keep a person busy. The housing market if pretty open right now with both rentals and places to buy. The job market is the tough one right now, but it looks like that is not a worry you have right now. Contact the Visitors center if you want some contacts for rentals, real estate agents or other info. They have a toll free number 1-800-367-9745.
