Default Looking for an aftermarket vehicle thermometer

Anyone have any luck with something like that? For measuring the outside temp, of course, though both inside and outside would be nice. Most I've seen online have some "ice alert" foolishness, which sounds an alarm and flashes lights at you anytime it's below 37F or whatever temperature the manufacturers decide is suddenly dangerous. I don't think I'll be happy with that going off for five months straight, so I'm hoping to find just a regular thermometer that's reasonably accurate and doesn't treat me like an idiot.

Edit: Jeez, how did I manage to spell vehicle wrong?

I have one of these in my truck:

Outside Air Temperature Gauge for Trucks and Cars | Sensor Thermometer | Digital

We also run them in some of our trucks at work. IMO, the advantages of these over the cheaper imports are 1) Made in the USA, 2) reads down to -99F where some of the cheaper ones only go to -10 or -20, 3) very quick response time.

They also make a dual gauge as well:

Inside Outside Air Temperature Gauge for Trucks and Cars | Dual Display l Sensor Thermometer | Digital

Only downside of course is that these are rather pricey. The cheapo Chinese ones can be had for around $40. But I'm willing to pay to keep my money in the US.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that the Teltek gauges are priced with the sensor included. The others are priced with the sensor separate, so in the end the price difference isn't really so great after all.

Wow, I hadn't noticed that. Why would I want the gauge without the sensor? That single display one from Teltek looks like what I should get. Now to figure out where to install it and find a seller with decent shipping. The site you linked to charges nearly $30. There's a company on Ebay that ships free to the -48, so maybe I'll just have it sent to my mom and she can forward it.

Welcome to Alaska. Gets even more interesting when you live in the bush and only have a PO Box, no UPS, FedEx and a bunch of people just won't send to PO Boxes, not to mention shipping charges go sky high. I've been quoted $50 shipping on a $10 part for my truck... Go figure.

Yes, come to think of it, this was one of the few items I couldn't figure out how to get a good deal on shipping. I checked amazon, ebay, and all of the other reliable sources, but no luck. In the end I think I just bit the bullet on shipping to my PO Box. I also did find one place in town that carries these gauges in stock - Trailercraft. Coincidentally, their price was about $115...the online price plus $30 shipping!

Yeah, we only have a PO Box in Valdez as well. And I've ordered quite a bit online since I've been here but this is the first thing that's been actually outrageous on shipping. Amazon ships plenty of stuff for free, as do several other online retailers (some require a specific purchase amount though). And some will ship USPS for the same price but it just takes an extra couple of days. The most I've paid extra so far was $5 (for a total of $15) from Sierra Trading Post, but I got a smokin' deal even with that included. I'll just get around the crazy ones by having it shipped to someone in the -48 and forwarded on to me USPS. No big deal.

I've found that some considerable whining can get things sent to my PO Box when I do an online order. And UPS even drops off items at my post office if I'm not home to meet a delivery, despite my leaving a note on the front door specifically telling them to leave my package at the door.

Bethel has both UPS and FEDEX delivery here. I swear by Amazon.
