Okay, I've been reading under here about Bethel Alaska, but I'm still not sold on the idea just yet. I will be moving to Bethel with an 8 month old baby, while my hubby stay behind in CA for the military. We have agreed to be a geographical family due to the fact that I am unable to find work in CA.I am in the healthcare field and will be working at yhkc. I guess what I am wondering is how is the cost of living there is now, and will i need to ship car and anything else to make this time comfortable. I am also wondering is there anything else I need to know or plan for if I do accept this job. All input and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You missed the barge service, the river is frozen or in the process of freezing. The only way you are going to ship a car here is by air.

Is the hospital providing housing for you, the baby, and a parent? Utilities for heat especially? Bethel will be nothing like CA...limited supplies short of shipping in without paying the price...(stock up on diapers and wipes)....Look at it as a learning experience. I am curious too why you picked Bethel?
