I saw something on TV about this. Expect 12-16 hours a day six or seven days a week (on your feet), and some dirty, stinky, nasty working conditions.

Yup. You'll save money because they generally provide housing and you won't have much time to spend anything you make, but the conditions aren't good. It does vary though. In Valdez there are two canneries, and one I'd recommend and the other I'd tell you not to even consider. So you might want to ask around about specific plants before you sign on with one.

One of the biggest seafood employment recruitments of the year will be held in Anchorage on December 9 this year. You can apply online with many of the seafood companies if you're out of the area. Pay is normally minimum wage of $7.75/hour in Alaska. Joe & Tigre summed it up pretty well.

chilkoot .. 7.75/hour - i think that's the regular time, like 8 hours but the overtime, if I work12,13,14,15 hours maybe there is a chance for 11,12,13/hour

I think that's how you make your money doing that, all the overtime plus not having living expenses or time to spend the money.

Yes, everything over 8 hours per day would be paid at time and a half. About $11.63. That's where you make your money plus there's not many places to spend it and you don't have much free time.

Be sure to always apply directly with the companies themselves. There are some scammers out there; if you answer an ad and they in any way ask you for money, don't waste your time further with them.
