The picture was linked to an article about martens and ermines, so perhaps it is an ermine?

Okay so whatever that picture was, it looked identical to that.. but he had like no tail (it was a little black stubby tail).

As for the star, I don't know what you mean by stables (did I miss a joke?) -- I live in a village out in the middle of nowhere, the nearest village is a 22 miles away. And actually I was facing southwest, so there was nothing in that direction, and no planes would be flying over there anyway.

Thanks for the link but it wasn't very helpful -- Young moon and Mercury after sunset December 7 | Tonight | EarthSky (http://earthsky.org/tonight/young-moon-and-mercury-pair-up-after-sunset-december-7 - broken link) I found this but I am not sure if it was what I saw since it was at sunrise, and it was much higher in the sky than demonstrated in their chart.

The light looked incredibly bright though... like if the North Star was taking steroids. I was almost thinking it was some alien, I was waiting for it to shoot up or down or in some weird direction. Meh, probably was some planet

It was more than likely Venus. It's visible as a morning star just now.

It has dark eyes and nose. Not an albino. If you right click on gobrien's pic and click on properties or info, it says ermine in the url. They do have short tails with black tips, which matches teamcoltra's description better than the long fluffy tail of a marten.
