I love the post offices in Alaska, much more efficient than in the town where I live now (WI). When I lived between Wasilla and Pt. Mac, then eventually living all the way out at Pt. Mac, we used the Knik post office. Loved it! Fast, efficient and great postal workers. And usually no lines, ever.

Well, since they are all up close to and looking toward the counter, it is true that I carefully avoided crawling over the counter to get the pictures you suggest... because they'd think I was as nutty as Eves and I'd end up in jail where you belong.

Really nothing different then what Eves said. 1 clerk up front most of the time then they might pull up a second one. That's pretty much what you see in these pictures. Nice try but total FAIL..........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nothing different! (Except nobody can find anything that looks like what Eves and Stiffy claimed!)

The number of clerks ranges from 0 to 4, depending on the need. Is there something wrong with that? Do you actually think they should have 4 clerks when there are no customers?

Has it occurred to you that nobody would get any mail in their box if everyone worked the counter for nothing?

Is it true that you are like the Eves kid... did they shoot you in the head 200 times too, and the bullets all bounced off? That's bit thick, but people say he swears it's true.

There was some real hollering going on! In the top picture, the guy at the end of the line with the blue hat on hollered at me! I was sitting on a bench talking to another fellow that was just hanging out, and Jeff shouted across the room that I looked like a tourist with that camera. Good thing I wasn't close, or we'd have come to blows over such nasty obnoxious fighting words!

On a serious note (and yes, that's all just sarcastic poking fun at a couple of jerks), Jeff's mother is a wonderful lady. I was looking for him once, and saw her coming out of her church... so I stopped and asked if she knew where he was. She said no, but allowed as how the Lord works in wonderful ways because she was just then praying for a ride and would I please...? It was a pleasure.

I live in Wasilla and our post office is usually a mess with long lines and gruff workers with the exception of one worker. I usually go to Palmer because when they have long lines they move fast and the workers are much nicer, besides the parking lot is easier to maneuver.

That's quite a lovely piece of prose you have written.

Hmm while i have ZERO ill will towards PO employees and have the utmost respect for there hard work they do, there have been occasions where there seemed to be a very long wait at the counter. I feel very sorry for the lady on the right side who is generally the main customer service representative, she has to deal with a lot of disgruntled customers. I always tell her to have a nice day and thank you, hoping maybe she gets even a small smile.

Regardless, there was an incident this recent x-mas with another Lady, someone told me she was the Post-Master for Barrow. This was between my wife and her, My wife is extremely patient and understanding (high school teacher) Apparently the Lady in Question (has black and grey hair) was agitated that she had misplaced a sign or was under the impression someone took it. She called out to the 20+ customers waiting "I would love to help you all with your packages but someone has taken my sign, until i get it back i will not be of any assistance" (might not be verbatim but fairly close to my recollection).

So here we were all waiting in line, no one saying anything rude or inconsiderate just impatiently waiting, at this time my wife and i had been in line for 35 minutes or so. Needless to say my very shy, and under-spoken wife shouts out "We just want you to do your job please, no one took your sign" I for one was completely shocked, but i guess even the timid have a breaking point.

After my wifes comment several others chimed in with there agreement and the Grey haired lady huffed really loud, scowled at my wife, and stomped off into the back room.

This occurred around December 13th (forget the exact day) so it was close but certainly still far enough from the holiday crunch most Post Offices get, course i am assuming Barrow PO gets a bit more hectic then others.

I see this from both sides, i used to work for UPS as a Freight Deliverer and as a front desk attendant, and now i am a Barrow PO customer, the Barrow PO is a lifeline for us, without it, things will get considerably worse, but the employees of the PO, especially the managers, need to still be respectful of the customers.

Anyhow, i honestly like waiting in line at the PO, i get to see more of the residents of Barrow and its great exercise for my smile muscles

P.S. This is a happy thread and i am in no way attempting to make it sad, but i do feel there needs to be a bit of perspective. Thank you Floyd for the great pictures.

Wow, the Barrow PO is nicer than the one in Valdez (and looks just like most of the ones in the Lower 48). Our people are usually pretty fast, but it looks much more rural, and we don't have that big counter to fill out forms/address slips on without getting out of line.

Yes indeed FLOYD; thank you for posting those photographs. and a HUGE THANKS to Dradin for telling it like it actually is. You have experienced exactly what my claims were. It is not something that happens all day every day; but my orignal claim was; people have to spend too much time standing in line when one more person up front will help.

Your typical one sided view floyd was countered by Dradiin who simply re-enfoced what I had orignially stated.

On another note; you said that people sat on the lower ledges to socialize; That simply is not true; there is a distinct reason people sit and wait in the areas you failed to show. It has nothing to do with socializing.

They are merely waiting - for the people sorting in that particular area to finish !

There is a huge difference between sarcasim and slander and liable - the later two are criminal acts clearly punishable by law; All I have to do is to prove you lied about my father receiving a blue ticked from Point Hope & a according to you my father also received a blue ticket from Barrow as well. My father was right; give him enough rope and he will hang himself. Where is the proof floyd - you are the one who is always demanding people provide proof of their words. Where is the proof my father has 'serious mental issues" YOU HAVE CROSSED THE LINE; lying about what the truth actually is;

You have a very short memory floyd; do you remember when Isabell Vincent approached you at the AC store because you had insulted some of her family members and actually acussed them of criminal acts?

Do you remember your exact words floyd ? You kept asking her where she was from. (She was living in Barrow at the time) Where are you from you kept asking. She answered you - Point Hope !! Your exact words to her were - you have never been to Point Hope ! That was just a little over a year ago. Did you lie to her; or are you lying here when you claim you have been to Point Hope ??

Where is the proof stiffnecked requested about the blue tickets ?

YOU CAN'T PROVE IT - you lied again - !!

We should just drag you into court to teach you a lesson and sue you over slander and liable. It is easily proven you are lying. People can be held accountable for their speech on the internet especially for harassment and lying about the truth !!

ALL YOUR FACTS: about my father are pufffed up - prefabricated lies that are all easily proven false.

For what it is worth; all anyone in Anchorage has to do - is ask - any one that attended Dimond High School 2003. JUST ASK ABOUT KHRIS EVES

Khris Eves was shot seven times on the ocean ice in Barrow in May of 09.

Four crews witnessed the entire ordeal. Many people are going down over this horrid event. The court house in Barrow was packed daily last April; the main players were the entire police force, 5 members of the Brower family; and the former Mayor Mike Stotts was arrested in Anchorage for attempting to access my sons bank account with phoney death certificate and a forged will using an incorrect spelling of my brothers actuall name.

A cover story was printed in the Arctic sounder; CLAIMING that Mayor Mike Stotts had to resign from Office; for misuse of the City's charge card. He missed important meetings and ran up a bill for over $17,000
for cocaine; prostitutes & alcohol; NOw use your brain; it is impossible for one person to run up a tab that much in one week. The real reason= he used the city's charge card to bail himself out of jail and the real figure is $25,000 !!

You are totally clueless about what is actually going on in Barrow Floyd; Go ask Ben Itta whaling captain - he saw the whole thing- Harry Browers crew (did not take part) Olemon's crew are all witness's GO ASK and then be kind enough to post the truth !!
