I'll have to find the rest of photos but there was a nice flat spot in the river. It just had a little left curve to it. He came in way too FAST and overshot the gravel bar. Slammed into the side of the bank and flipped the plane.

watching a bunch of episodes (again)...amazed at how YOUNG the pilots are at ERA Aviation.
wondering how much the airfare is for those trips between villages, must be reasonable since i see that alot of working class locals seem to be able to afford them, and they transport teenagers to sporting events etc. anyone know?

Now it costs more to fly from Bethel to Toksook Bay than it is to fly from Bethel to Anchorage. Fuel is expensive here and it reflects on the airfare. It's around $400 R/T between the village and Bethel compared to $380 or so between here and Anchorage. Flying round trip from Anchorage to destinations down states is cheaper than flying within Alaska itself.

The School Districts charter flights for the sporting events.

wow. by the way toksook bay was where they were flying medical supplies to from bethel in the episode i just watched.
so i am assuming working class locals probably dont fly too much. watching Flying Wild Alaska makes it seem like its as common as flagging a taxi cab. or do Alaska residents get special rates, like is done in Hawaii?

You have to fly in for hospital appointments and such, you have to fly here in order to fly to Anchorage. Alaska Air gives deals to fly, Era does it once in a while.

Flying wild doesn't show how much it costs to fly between villages. There are a few other airlines out here and in other hubs to compete with Era. Most don't do mainline flights from the hub to Anchorage like Alaska Air and Era does. Most charge the same price as Alaska to fly to Anchorage, but why pay the same price to fly in a turboprop compared to a 737 that Alaska has? I know I don't, and many others do, too.

Airfare just becomes a huge part of your annual budget. Of course in many places you don't have a car, but you do have a snowgo and a 4 wheeler.

I wounder what it would the cost without the flight subsidies to some of the villages. The barging cost, plus the cost of fuel, would be insane.
