2011-2012 is supposed to be a 'maximum' viewing year for the aurora in the 11-year cycles.

Last night was the best display I've seen yet. These photos were taken in Nuiqsut, Alaska. Kind of blurry, but you can tell how amazing they were!

Here are some good websites for the aurora forecast:

Space Weather (look at K index)

Minute by Minute forecast

And here are some cool informational sites I found:

Aurora Facts

Atmospheric Optics

Yet another reason I want to make it to Alaska. Aurora viewing! Great photos, despite the blurry! Thanks for sharing!

Last night, depending on cloud cover, the Auroras should have shown all across the Northern lower-48 states.

Yep, I saw them driving home from Gerstle along the Alaska Highway east of Delta around midnight last night. Best display I've seen since moving here, but I didn't have my camera...

amblicia, I've been here 3 years too and this is the first year I've seen them! And I've seen them about 6 times in the last 2 months!!

The 2011/2012 season is supposed to be the most active for the next 11 years, so definitely check out the websites!

This website has minute-by-minute predictions. And if you sign up, they'll send you a text message for free every time the aurora is active. Pretty cool!

When that one doesn't have new info, use the spaceweather one and check out the KP index on the bottom left.

Been in Anchorage 3 years now and I'll tell you, you cannot see ***** in this town. Did you know that out of the 29 kids in my 4th grade son's class, HE was the ONLY one that has seen the Northern Lights? Pretty sad. THIS is one of the reasons I miss Fairbanks (Interior)
