My husband and I are having a dispute that needs to be settled regarding hoop house/hoop style greenhouse with greenhouse plastic: He thinks that a temporary type structure like this is not worth bothering with because the moose will "go right through it" and I say highly unlikely unless the ends are left open. Any thoughts or experience?

Moose are going to be a problem for sure on our property and I am planning my long term garden tatics right from the beginning. I want to get the raised bed areas and cold frames started in the next couple of weeks, along with the hoop house setup. I would sure appreciate any experienced Alaskan gardeners input.

I placed an 8 foot mesh fence around my garden and have not had any trouble in a few years. They could easily walk right through/over it but they don't. And I know many folks that have visquene covered green houses and moose have never walked into them. They will however eat every dang thing in a garden that is unprotected. The very night before you plan on harvesting. Usually one bite out of every head of cabbage, califlower, eat peas within an inch of the dirt and the same with broccoli.

Someone once asked me about that, what do I do if a moose eats my cabbages, my reply... I eat the moose.

(I wonder if ADF&G considers this baiting...?)
