Kind of like Dutch Harbor where you can face fog, rain, sleet, snow, coming sideways with 90 mph gusts...all at the same time.

That reminds me of the time earlier this winter when my guy's mom saw a junior high student walking to school during a windstorm get picked up and tossed on the ground 20 feet away!

Most of central Anchorage doesn't get much wind, but you have to be careful because it frequently blasts out Turnagain Arm just south of town. The Hillside neighborhood is known for getting crazy gusty winds. Down in midtown though, I was amazed that we could just pile up cardboard boxes behind the building when I worked at REI.

Wasilla gets plenty of wind, but not quite as bad as Palmer. Most of the time it shuts off abruptly as you head out the Parks Highway and turn the corner behind the Talkeetna Mountains, somewhere around Houston I think.

Haven't spent enough time in Kenai to say, but I'd guess the west wind would funnel down the Kenai River Valley, kinda like Turnagain Arm and the Matanuska Valley.

Thanks for all the replies. We have been real windy the last couple days around my place here in Tx. Will have a couple days off from the wind, and then back to it again.

Funny, but the weather forecasters will miss the 'cast on snow/ice, rain, sun, and temperature. All with fair regularity, but with WIND forecasts, they always seem to get that one exactly right.....
