What is the most inexpensive way to get our belongings to Sitka? My husband is moving there next week and my daughter and I will be moving in August. This is when all our belongings will need to get there. I would rather not have to drive all the way (just her and I) but I also don't have money falling from trees. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You can't drive all the way to Sitka.

I'd suggest that you barge your stuff up on Northland and then fly up with your daughter. And lose whatever belongings that you don't absolutely need.

The cheapest way is to load a container, get it to Seattle, place it on one of the barge companies (AML, Northland, etc.), and have them ship it up. I'd drive to Prince Rupert and take the ferry. You may have to change ferries in Ketchikan or Juneau.

Take your stuff to Seattle. Northland Services offer the cheapest barge service to Sitka. Then drive to Prince Rupert and take the ferry the rest of the way. Agree with akck. Get rid of absolutely everything you don't need. Moving is a good time to get rid of all that...

Yes, you can't drive to Sitka. You can drive as far North to Bellingham, Washington maybe, and then would have to board a ferry, with your car. There would be many stops though. I think to find out more information, you should research the Alaskan Marine Highway website. Sitka is very pretty though!

You can drive as far north as Prince Rupert, British Columbia and get on the ferry there. Save big bucks by doing that too.

Sitka is a island, so you can't drive to it.

Do you have an idea of how expensive the ferry trip would be?

It might not even be possible for her to get on the ferry at Bellingham in August...they book up months in advance. Prince Rupert is better if she has to drive. Personally I'd barge it up and fly.
