P.S. Please---Stop trolling with your hunting crap please.
Actually most folks in Alaska, or so it is to the best of my understanding, really don't hunt crap, various and sundry four legged critters fill a freezer well and cook up quite deliciously, I do a honey/butter Deer ham that will have ya salivating from fifty yards. Crap is something the peta folks like to dish out, then object loudly and long when it flows in their direction.

Private? They exist on this forum; they aren't "private".

I brought it up because I happen to value the posters in this forum and don't want to see them played the way she did before.

It has nothing to do with her politics.

And you just joined today and you're already an expert on us.

Something tells me that when one of the mods compares your IP to that of Ms. Metal's they're going to see more similarities between the "two" of you than just your political leanings.

Nobody hates vegetarians here; I lean towards that myself. What we hate is people trying to tell us how to live, especially when they've got no real knowledge of what living in the North entails.

And about health--again, the traditional SE Native diet is among the healthiest on the planet.

well lets see...iceburg lettuce does not grow in ice or perma frost...nor do vegetables...high altitude Tibetans eat meat as vegetables do not grow in their climate...healthy has nothing to do with where you live an what is available. The town we are in right now is full of "green" people...yuppies who want to "buy" organic veggies, have their cappuccino coffee's and socialize at the local yuppy store slash breakfast eatery...drive their prius's but complain they live next to a "stinky" farm because the farmer raises cows and pigs!... haven't a clue....got a great house for sale for you green urban people with a great mix of your city type greeners~!

Do you think it would work to throw myself on the mercy of all the good cooks I know something like-will trade yard work for decent cooking?
It is driving me crazy after a lifetime of cooking from scatch , canning, gardening that I have competely lost my touch for it! Variety in meals for me these days is asking myself if I want bananas with spots or without!

I was an lacto-vegetarian prior to moving up here from the lower 48. It's not a reasonable lifestyle where I currently live due to the cost (both financial and environmental) of shipping in the variety of foods I'd need to get a balanced, varied lacto-veggie diet. I'm not bothered by that, since it's factory farming I primarily object to, and here for meat I can mostly get wild game and fish, plus chickens and eggs off the people around here who keep them.

Being a vegan or a vegetarian can be a responsible, healthful thing, but it just doesn't make sense up here, so I can't see being dogmatic about it. I figure having less choice about diet is just part of the cost of living in a beautiful, relatively wild place.

The closer you get to the equator, the easier it is to survive on a vegetarian/vegan diet derived from local resources. The botanical diversity that makes that possible in warmer climates does not exist here. To put it simply, the farther north you go, the less species of plant life you see. It's obvious even coming from Oregon to Southern Southeast Alaska.

Some hunters use gas etc....and a lot of lettuce etc is planed up to Alaska courtesy of fossil fuels as well.

I suppose that everyone has their subjective definition of progressive; it may help if the OP would clarify what hers is before she starts to slam hunters.

If progressive means eating food that is planed in from the lower 48 and sold in cellophaned packages rather than following the principles of the 100 mile diet then all I can say is that the urban liberals are truly idjits of the first order.
I didn't read through the whole thread...Annie Metal was gone for a long time, coming here with the crap...go check out previous posts...she is an oldie! I see her in AZ too......
